I just wanted to take time to say that you for your support, Open House was a wonderful night! I greatly enjoyed sharing our curriculum with you. I am very happy that all of you are as interested in the achievement of your child as I am.
It was nice to see some familiar faces, as well, as being introduced to new ones. Our School Community has to be one where we all feel comfortable. That is why when we have these opportunities to come together it is important to be a part of the experience.
It was great to share what I know of your children to this point. They have all been working hard to take advantage of every learning opportunity. I am trying to instill in them the IMPORTANCE of education. I believe that all students have the ability to make their future whatever they want it to be by the choices they make today.
I hope that you will continue to speak to them about how strong your feelings of education are as well. If you ever feel you need reinforcement remind them of the words Barack Obama spoke to them in his address, “But at the end of the day, the circumstances of your life — what you look like, where you come from, how much money you have, what you’ve got going on at home — none of that is an excuse for neglecting your homework or having a bad attitude in school. That’s no excuse for talking back to your teacher, or cutting class, or dropping out of school. There is no excuse for not trying.”
You can also remind them of their personal goal they wrote for this school-year, which President Obama also called on them to do in these words, “That’s why today I’m calling on each of you to set your own goals for your education — and do everything you can to meet them. Your goal can be something as simple as doing all your homework, paying attention in class, or spending some time each day reading a book. Maybe you’ll decide to get involved in an extracurricular activity, or volunteer in your community. Maybe you’ll decide to stand up for kids who are being teased or bullied because of who they are or how they look, because you believe, like I do, that all young people deserve a safe environment to study and learn.”
These are the words President Obama left us with from his powerful address, “Now, your families, your teachers, and I are doing everything we can to make sure you have the education you need to answer these questions. I’m working hard to fix up your classrooms and get you the books and the equipment and the computers you need to learn. But you’ve got to do your part, too. So I expect all of you to get serious this year. I expect you to put your best effort into everything you do. I expect great things from each of you. So don’t let us down. Don’t let your family down or your country down. Most of all, don’t let yourself down. Make us all proud.”
I have taken this quotes directly from President Obama, A Message of Hope and Responsibility for America’s Students, given on September 8, 2009, to remind us all that together we can succeed and we will if we work hard and persevere!
Thanks as always for all that you do for your child and our School Community!
